Esplanade Located in the very heart of Helsinki, the Esplanade is a secluded area of great cultural and historical importance. It serves mainly as a promenade for tourists and as a place for locals to come and relax. Live music is performed here during the summer down at the harbour end of the park. Kaisaniemi Park Kaisaniemi Park is a wonderful recreation area and includes the University Botanical Gardens. It is situated next to the Central Railway Station. Kaivopuisto Park This is Helsinki's oldest and most well known park. The sea is nearby, with rock cliffs and green lawns presenting various ways to relax and enjoy the open air. The Ursa Observatory is up at the top of the park. There are several restaurants and cafés on the islands and along the shoreline. Sibelius Park Sibelius park was named after Jean Sibelius, Finland's greatest composer on the day of the composers 80th birthday in 1945. Many tourists come to see the Sibelius Monument designed by Eila Hiltunen. Töölö Bay The Töölö Bay park starts in the heart of Helsinki. The Winter Gardens, showing a vast collection of plants, can be found up at the north end of the bay. There is a line of wooden villas along the shoreline that serve as a good example of Helsinki's past. The Töölö Bay is also a popular destination for bird watchers. |
