KINGSLEY PLATATION

The Kingsley Plantation is the oldest surviving cotton plantation in Florida. The plantation was built by a slave trader of the name of Zephaniah Kingsley at the end of the eighteenth century. It is worth a visit to experience what life was like on a plantation from all perspectives. The plantation as it stands today is made up of the plantation house, a rather modest version of grander style homes as seen in "Gone with the Wind"; a kitchen house; a barn and 23 of the original 32 slave dwellings. One of them has been completely restored to its former "glory" and it is probably the country's best example of a slave cabin. The cabins were built from tabby, a mix similar to cement of sand and crushed oyster sea shells. The plantation sits in beautiful grounds that would have been part of the cotton plantation.

MARINELAND
Marineland is a noted National Historic site. It was once an underwater filming studio and has been open for more than sixty years. Today it is used as an aquarium containing 450 gallons of salt water to provide a home to all marine life including dolphins, turtles and a variety of fish. The magic of the program executed here is that you get the chance to don an outfit, scuba diving suit and snorkel gear, and swim with the fascinating life that inhabits the deep crevices of our watery planet. If you don't feel like dipping, no problem there are many shows where you can experience the dolphins or watch the feeding underwater along with the other exhibits that explain the world under water.
